I guess it's obvious that DC's attractions are far superior to anything in Boston or Philly.

But personally, I find Boston to be a lot more accessible to a tourist than DC. The subway is better at serving the main downtown tourist areas. When I went to DC, wanted to visit Georgetown and the Mall, but unfortunately there are no subway stops in Georgetown, so I had to get off at Dupont and walk/bus my way to Virginia where I could catch a subway to the Mall. It was a pain. (though DC's subway escalators are absolutely stunning, imo. I might suggest a visit just to see those, lol.)

Another thing is that in Boston all the museums and attractions are spread out across the city, forcing you to explore a bit, whereas in Philly and DC all the historical sites/museums (or at least a lot of them) are in the same little rectangular area.

And it also depends on what you want to see. Do you want to visit typical tourist sites, or are you looking to party or what? Your reasons for visiting could play a big part in which place you should go to! Like someone posted above, if nightlife and "urban experiences" are what you want in your visit, then maybe you should go for Philly. There are pros and cons for each city; I don't think DC is the obvious choice.

Just some food for thought!
Nobody told you about the red/yellow/gray Georgetown Connector buses?

DC probably has the mot, especially for a family with many museums free in the Smithsonian's

On the whole all have a lot offer and it may come down to what one desires but on the whole especially for a fmaily DC has a lot to offer

IMO, Boston is the one to see. It's really quite an amazing city.

If you haven't been to DC yet I'd suggest that. I think everybody should attempt to visit their Nations Capital. Tons of stuff to do and see around the area, some free some not. I'd add just be ready for a lot of walking. Boston would be my next choice and then Philadelphia. Like mentioned why not take a train to one of the others if you're going to be up there for that many days.
