Chicago is the obvious choice, Philly would be second.

But of the cities listed, the clear choice is Atlanta. The city that really dominates the South.

Houston because it was founded by two brothers from NYC.

Atlanta dominates the Southeast, not the South.

Its no where near the population of Dallas or the economical powerhouse of Houston.

Philly would be the obvious answer. Then probably Boston.

And why did you include all kinds of cities that you know are like the polar opposite of NYC?

Seattle. It's a northern seaport and out of every city listed on the poll it definitely has the most dense street grid at its core, walkable, busy, and vibrant with lots of pedestrian activity. That said Seattle and every city listed on the poll is a village compared to NYC, only city that comes close is Chicago and even that's a stretch in and of itself.

Couldn't have said it better. Given the choices, Seattle is by far the closest. I just moved to Midtown Atlanta and I can tell you that anyone who buys into the whole "Atlanta is NY of the South" is either deluded or mistaken. Its absolutely nothing like New York.

Seattle is nothing like New York. Seaport, yes, but even Minneapolis is more urban.
