The main thing is that shootings are skyrocketing in every city I'm seeing these records in, including LA, which has a 10% decline in homicides this year and a 23% rise in shooting victims.
Aggravated assault with a gun includes threatening to kill someone with a gun as well. Shootings could be up but threats and or reports are down. I don't see any specific shooting statistics from Philly.

The economy likely has something to do with that. At least america isn't dangerous like it was in the late 70s to early 90s. Houston is a perfect example. 701 homicides in 81. 608 in 91. And around 270 yearly today.

Murders didn't rise during the worst years of it, they dropped in some cities and were stagnant in others. I think the big rise recently has more to do with the tensions between the police and black neighborhoods, but also the heroin epidemic could be another contributing factor. The big drops happened in the mid to late 90s. The decline in homicides in the 2000s was less steep and in some cities it didn't really drop any further. Houston had 230 homicides in 2000 for example.

whats normal for Baltimore. It appears to have the same average murder rate give or take a few for the past 40 years.
