2010- 269
Houston although not as bad as before, this last year the rate skyrocketed.
2011- 198 (Historic Low)/9.2 per 100,000
2012-217- exactly 10 per 100,000
2013-214- also less than 10 per 100,000
2014-239
2015-299
In the previous decade the highest was
2006- 377 (Rate) 18.2 per 100,000
The lowest was
2001-267 (Rate) 13.4 per 100,000
If this year had 300 murders it would have been the first time since 2007.
In Fact January First someone already was killed in Houston.

I don't know about 2015, but Windsor only had 3 homicides in 2014. Population 210k. Murder rate 1.4/100k.

By comparison, Birmingham Alabama had 92 homicides for 2015. Population 212k. Murder rate 43.4/100k.
Jefferson County had 143 homicides.

Bham had its first homicide of 2016 at 2:30am on New Year's.

I think there were 4 in Windsor for 2015, at least going by the number of news stories from this past year. One in February, one in June, one in September, and one last month.

Nashville finished with 75, an 82% increase over 2014 (which happened to be a 50 year low).

WOW. What a massive increase. That means Nashville went from a murder rate of about 6.4/100k to 11.3/100k in a year. That's definitely a worrying trend. Let's hope 2016 is much better. Does it feel like Nashville is getting more dangerous?

I'd call it a spike, not a trend.

Nashville is a little weird with murder numbers. For example:

2002 - 65
2003 - 82
2004 - 58
2005 - 97

Nashville also has a high violent crime rate....but oddly it doesn't always translate to a high murder rate. A lot (but not all) can be attributed to drugs and gangs, not random acts of violence or robberies. I'll wait until the numbers for other crimes come out, but I'm not ready to state that Nashville is more dangerous. Crime in general has been decreasing over the years.
