I've been to Honeymoon Island State Park in Tampa and Cuyahoga National Park in Cleveland/Akron. Both were really interesting to visit, but Ohio natural settings seemed much more inviting and more interesting than Florida's. Florida is all about the water and it's so flat. The forests looked dangerous and way too thick to walk through. In Ohio, I had no pestilence to be scared of, no mosquitoes even, and it was so serine and revigorating.
Yeah, you're not enjoying the Everglades like you are CVNP.
Florida is a really weird and unusual place, amazing to visit. So different than most parts of the US and I think that is much of the appeal for many.
It's like an adventure... a really fun and wild one. Until hurricane season comes... or you go inland or north too far. Then it becomes scary and depressing.

Hurricane Season can be a very fun adventure I remember we used to always look forward to it. There's nothing like experiencing the wrath of mother nature. At Least it's warm so you can actually survive without electricity. I've experienced many strong hurricanes, and don't recall there actually being devastating effects.

Right. At worst, we went a week without power.
No big deal: Cooked outside, water was still running, and kept the windows open at night to get a breeze through the house.

I agree with you, it is a lot of fun to visit. It was really cool seeing the manatees and the moss and the birds.
But, when your not so much sight seeing as just enjoying a walk through the woods thinking things over or riding a bicycle there's just something more inviting about a temperate forest. Florida's woods seemed too alive. You have to pay attention all the time because you don't want to step into a hairy situation. At least that's the impression I got.
Hills do add to the scenic aspect of a place as well. And I'm just not much of a water person, probably a result of being raised in CO.

A very good point. Lots of things can take a wrong turn VERY fast...
Is that not the point of an adventure, though? To take that fearless trek through uncharted lands?
Sometimes being out in nature is being on an adventure, othertimes it's unwinding, enjoying the ambiance while doing something else, daydreaming while walking...
I'd do quite a bit of the latter, so a mostly non-threatening while still lush and alive environment is preferable. You can always vacation to all sorts of different environments if you feel like you've exhausted the one you are in.
