I think I'd pick Salem. I normally prefer college towns, but west coast college towns may be a little much...
Florala, Alabama or Florahome, Florida?
Florahome... Both places would make for a big adjustment coming from where I live now, but Florahome has a lot more going on within an hour it, so I think it would be a better option from an amenity/jobs standpoint.

Glen Cove, NY or Montclair, NJ?
Glen Cove NY. It’s near water and North shore has more prestige.
I'd go with Burlington. I do love northern Michigan in the warm months, but TC gets quite a bit more snow. Being in Burlington also gives easy access to lots of other interesting places.

Hattiesburg, Mississippi or Dothan, Alabama?
Dothan is in better shape. I like its proximity to Panama City and Destin areas. Hattiesburg looks more stagnant.
Ft. Payne, AL. It looks more interesting downtown, and topographically is more my style. Geographically as well actually- western TN/eastern AR/northern MS is one of my least favorite regions in the country.

New York, New York vs Boston, Massachusetts?
NYC, as there's more going on there vs. Boston. And I keep hearing about MBTA transit issues(including poor subway maintenance), which is another knock against Boston. NYC's subway isn't perfect, but at least they seem to make maintenance efforts to keep up that system.

Galena, IL, or Red Wing, MN?
Both are near the Mississippi River, and IIRC Galena has a place in railroad history
(not sure of the details). But Red Wing is much closer to a major metro area (MSP)
so it would be my choice.
Two western college towns (towns with colleges, anyway) not far from famous national parks:
Bozeman, MT (Yellowstone) or Flagstaff, AZ (Grand Canyon)?
Flagstaff mainly for the milder climate. I liked it when I visited as well.
Two Deep South towns known for their historic homes:
Laurel, Mississippi or Eufaula, Alabama?
Due to Erin and Ben, I would live in Laurel for sure. I love them! The town seems nice enough. Hurricane season might change my mind, but to each his/her own.

Tampa, FL or Grand Rapids, MI?
I'd prefer the quieter pace and pleasant nature of Grand Rapids.
Grand Rapids or Royal Oak MI?
