I'm only including the places over 3 million today.
Vote for all of the places that you think will cross the 6 million mark by, lets say, midcentury. I'll leave it as a multiple choice poll for that reason.
Factors to include: 1) natural population growth; 2) the potential for addition of close-by or closely-knit territories into current area (use proof for this if you are making an argument -- commuting data).
* Tampa/Saint Petersburg + Lakeland + Sarasota + Homosassa Springs (Source: FL DOF, FL DOT, DMA Media Markets, Tampa Bay Planning Commission)
I've provided all of the links so that way people can look into their growth rates to get an idea of what their trajectories are and how fast they are gaining.
Again, its more than okay to choose multiple cities in the poll, as the chances are likely that a number of them will pass 6 million in our lifetimes. Well, at least the potential is there, we don't know for sure, so this thread is more speculative than anything else.
Give your reasons why too, why whichever city will be over 6 million over the others.
Orlando and Phoenix are the top contenders here, both are booming at record levels right now. Something noteworthy, theoretically speaking, I can see Orlando-Tampa-Lakeland being combined into one large super-CSA in the near future, similarly to Dallas-Forth Worth, in which case the 6 million mark would be easily surpassed, once again theoretically speaking..

I don't know if that would truly happen, but it might.
Borlando and all of the envious central Florida posters would love the opportunity to say that their region is larger than Atlanta.
Tampa has too much pride and too much going on to want to be or forced to be paired with Orlando. The gubment may write it, but Tampa Bay won't be signing it. Guarantee that.

Someone must be in a sour mood today.. Have you ever even lived in Central Florida? Who exactly is being "envious" here as you say?
