1 death for every 50 shots fired calls seems to be about the average.
Charlotte had 1,434 shots fired calls in the first 3 months of the year. 27 of those resulted in death. Charlotte is at 46 murders now so it should be around 2,500 shots fired calls so far this year and finish around 5,000 shots fired calls and 100 homicides.
St Paul had 357 shots fired calls in about the first 3 months of the year. Should finish around 1,400 shootings for the year and 30 homicides.
Chicago probably has 15,000 shots fired calls so far this year (85 a day). Philadelphia probably has 7,500 so far (42 a day). These daily averages will probably rise as summer kicks off. Chicago finished last year with what should be an average of about 110 shots fired calls a day and this year is about equal to last.
Charlotte and St Paul had it on the local news at the end of the first quarter. Chicago's was published in the news in 2008 I believe. Chicago PD responded to 87 shots fired calls a day then. It should be even more now. It should be around 100 a day or more but that's just an estimate based on 2008 (31,755 shots fired calls). Based on 2008 statistics, Chicago should've had 45-50,000 shots fired calls last year (120+ a day).
Definitely makes sense when I heard about these stats because I used to listen to the scanners every once in a while in some cities and heard shots fired calls often, sometimes multiple times, and was confused. I had a shots fired call in Detroit within about 30 seconds of turning it on the last time I had the scanner on some time last year. Detroit probably averages 15,000 shots fired calls a year (40+ a day).

Greensboro has had a pretty wild month and is up to 19/6.62 after a killing yesterday afternoon...
Charlotte had another man murdered Saturday night and is now at 48/5.70...
Raleigh is still at 12/2.61 but had a bizarre shootout yesterday morning in which 20-30 bullets were exchanged but no one injured. Clearly by Raleigh standards, there is a bit of a violent crime wave there, too...

Alright. I would think it be 1 death for every 4 or 5 shots for Chicago.
