There's Latin cities where 30-40 people are shot every day, routinely. Over 10 are killed every day. Chicago is bad only to first-world standards.

Historically, and particularly for the past 10 years (with 2017 so far being the exception) , DC has had a higher homicide rate than Philly. DC had a higher homicide rates than Philly in 2016, 2015, 2014 etc.

The reason for the lower crime rate in DC is...

LAW AND ORDER!

*At this point, we are exactly halfway through the year (well, for the trackers that update live)*

St. Louis 90/28.90
Baltimore 170/27.66
New Orleans 96/24.52
North Charleston 23/21.04
Birmingham 43/20.27
Jackson 29/17.14
Memphis 98/15.01
Kansas City 69/14.33
Shreveport 27/13.85
Chicago 320/11.83
Tulsa 45/11.16
Newark 29/10.30
Knoxville 19/10.20
Philadelphia 155/9.89
Mobile 19/9.85
Milwaukee 58/9.74
Chattanooga 17/9.57
Nashville 57/8.63
Oakland 35/8.33
Washington 56/8.22
Toledo 22/7.90
Columbus 66/7.67
Savannah 22/7.61
Beaumont 9/7.60
Jacksonville 66/7.49
Charlotte 47/5.58
Oklahoma City 35/5.48
Phoenix 61/3.77
Los Angeles 136/3.42
New York 121/1.42

NYC down from 155, better shot than ever at staying below 300.
Chicago virtually unchanged (320/322), maintaining last year's elevated pace.
All four Tennessee cities have very high numbers.
Kansas City having a terrible year.
Seems like St. Louis on track to be murder capital for 3rd year in a row.
Newark still pretty bad but making decent progress - down from 45 last year.

Let's look at Mexico (official govt report). This data is a month old (up to end of May)

Nationwide 11,155 / 9.33

By State:
Baja California 801 / 24.16
Baja California Sur 219 / 30.75
Chihuahua 752 / 21.14
Mexico City 482 / 5.40
Guerrero 955 / 27.03
Jalisco 591 / 7.52
State of Mexico 983 / 6.07
Sinaloa 717 / 24.17
Veracruz 748 / 9.22
