Thank you @annie_himself, some people haven't learned to disagree without name calling and personal attacks.

Can't see Atlanta being remotely similar to DC

DC is nothing like Atlanta. Also, DC is not a southern city at all.

Glad to see so many folks agree that ATL and DC are really not much alike. ATL's peers are Dallas, Houston and Charlotte when it comes to similar make up of the city.

As others have said, DC and Philly are more similar in the cities proper. DC and Atlanta are more similar in their suburbs.

Not really. You don't really have equvilants to to places like Arlington, SS or Old Town. Even if some of the suburbs are quasi similar, Atlanta has more in common with other cities as a whole i.e. Dallas, Houston.

DC's suburbs are definitely more similar to Atlanta's suburbs than Philly's. You don't need equivalents to those satellite cities to be similar, as you won't find the same equivalents in the Philly area. Atlanta and DC have some of the nicest suburbs in the country.

Old Town is the only thing Atlanta really doesn't have an equivalent for. SS is very similar to downtown Decatur, and Arlington is just New Urbanism on steroids--just a bit more walkable than Perimeter Center. Suburban DC has many more New Urbanist projects than traditional suburban areas with walkable downtowns like the Main Line suburbs, Camden, Collingswood, etc.--making suburban DC more similar to Atlanta. You're mistaken on this point.

Sure but that's not the question at hand.

Decatur comes the closest to Arlington. With that being said it's pretty hard to ignore the similarities of Cobb County to Montgomery County MD, and Gwinnett County to Fairfax county.

I think Perimeter (although not as walkable right now) comes closest to Arlington and downtown Decatur comes closest to downtown Silver Spring.
