What are some southern traditions in Richmond?

Any other less than southern qualities that Memphis has can probably be attributed to its larger size. I think Birmingham being one of the smallest cities on the poll is influencing its perceived southernness.
Memphis and Birmingham are basically the same size.

Richmond has a boulevard dedicated to Confederate Generals.

Is that really a tradition though?

I mean history is history and could never be erased, but does that reflect the current traditions of Richmond?

Boston renamed King Street, does that erase the Colonial Past?

the fact they still romanticize the Confederacy shows they are still deeply southern in attitudes.

No.

This does not equate to local natives and what traditions they practice on a daily basis. Which is what I consider "traditions". But I'll let someone from Richmond itself actually elaborate on what traditions are truly practiced there.

Same as the other cities I mentioned.

Strict boundaries with regard to caste
Emphasis on bloodlines, family prestige and upbringing
Marrying within your circle
Maintaining the family home for generations
Manners and savior faire
Having money, but not talking about it
Antiquity
Wariness of outsiders
Exclusion via clubs and organizations
Hunting, fishing and horsemanship
God (but only if He's Protestant), Guns and Faded Glory

A lot of this sounds extremely outdated. You hear much of the same about Charleston, which is pretty ridiculous in 2018. At the most, this would probably describe an extremely small subset of the overall population that is White, affluent, and 65+ years old.

I disagree. Unlike even the largest cities in the south today, New Orleans has always been an international city with a wide variety of inhabitants and cultural influences. Southern heritage is only one facet of the New Orleans scene as a whole.

I was thinking the same thing, especially the hunting, fishing, and horsemanship. Those are definitely not unique to the South.
