Sure, Vancouver could end up with a higher homicide rate than Seattle, but isn't that less of a concern that its crazy level of OD deaths?
In 2017, British Columbia had more opioid OD deaths per capita than 46 states and 6x the rate of California.
I'm sure Vancouver will find the way to reduce this problem. No wonder it's the most livable city in North America, whereas Seattle is nowhere to be found in the rankings.

Very livable with its inflated real estate, low wages, open air heroin corridor, and no company like Microsoft, Boeing, Starbucks, or Amazon in sight. But when reality isn't so great, turn to a magazine ranking.

That livability score is pure garbage... Most of those cities are boring soulless cities, it is more of a marketing thing than the reality.
Vancouver is the most expensive city on earth when you take the cost of living and the wages into the equation, even in Canada people say that Vancouver is very boring.

In some places like Toronto the police reports on homicides chronologically, so murder number 12 for the year will have "2020-12" at the top of the news release.
In some cities like Montreal if you look at news reports on the latest murder, at the end they usually say "this was the Xth murder of the year on the territory covered by the SPVM..."
They do. Just gets a little tired when Canadians come here and promote how their cities with large land areas, and in some cases limited diversity,.
The only large city in Canada with "limited diversity" is Quebec City, which has about 600,000 people. It can sometimes go up to 18 months without a single murder.
All other major Canadian cities have appreciable to significant diversity. Their murder rates are all pretty low by U.S. standards though places like Toronto, Ottawa, Winnipeg and Edmonton have had somewhat high rates by Canadian standards in recent years. (Similar to that of NYC.)
These numbers were from January 2020 according to HomicideCanada.com which is an excellent resource for up to date murder stat for Canada. Just go to provincial stats and you will see BC {I'' put up those as you are from Vancouver} currently sitting at 8 of which 7 are in Metro Vancouver and one in Metro Victoria. A VERY bad start for the year for Vancouver.

Saw that Greater Montreal is now at 3. All three are off island in the suburbs and no on the island which is the core city patrolled by SPVM, which is still at zero and has 2 million people.
Off island suburbs also have about 2 million people.
Brockton MA has to be the city with the most "shots fired/car shot up/house shot up/shell casings recovered" but no victim shootings i've ever heard of. There's a shooting like that virtually 2 times a week.
