^Right. People don't want to pile on each other and that's normal fair and reasonable. It's not worth it for most people and I respect that

Huh. Rural MO seems like it’s be far more hive-mind-y than anywhere in MA. We do have a Republican governor, and if politics were really so important to you, you could always try to find a home in a conservative town like Blanford or Wales.

At least in many places in MO, I'd be able to afford a one bedroom.
Sure, but the whole state doesn’t have the crazed housing cost of metro Boston. I’m an hour south of the city and the transportation infrastructure makes a metro Boston commute impossible. You can rent a 1 br apartment in the residential part of New Bedford or Fall River and pay nothing like Boston prices. Same for most places west of Worcester.

I've lived in rural Missouri and it isn't nearly as bad as people make it out to be.
Sure, you can hang out with certain crowds that are closed off, but that's the case anywhere.

True... plenty of affordable rents in Fall River New Bedford Taunton Springfield Fitchburg. They're just kind of miserable cities...

You can your own decent 1br/1ba in good part of Kansas City for $700/800. I'd definitely rank Boston ahead of KC as a city, but it shouldn't be too hard to see why having your own 1br at $700 within walking distance to shopping, dining, nightlife, etc. in KC would be more appealing than paying $1000 to share a place with a roommate in Boston.
Rent prices have risen substantially in KC, I would put the figure at around $1,000-1,100 for any reasonably decent area that is not crime ridden.

that doesn't quite explain the recent election results in rural Missouri being 80-20/ 85-15 Republican, far lopsided conservative than many of the more Democratic areas of Massachusetts.

I the only one who if unmarried would absolutely rather live with a roommate than alone?

I mean getting married is basically finding a roommate you really like.

I feel like this conversation would be WAY different if MO’s primary cities, KC and St Louis were in a lot better shape. I know that they both have a lot of nice areas, but it really sucks that both cities have substantial higher crime/murder rates compared to any City in Massachusetts. Even ones that people constantly talk trash about, like Fall River, Brockton, or Springfield still have much rates of urban decay and crime compared to both of MO’s primary urban areas.

I mean, basically Boston’s worst areas are comparable to an area like Dutchtown or Benton Park, which is considered an ok area of St Louis.

If 30% of St Louis or Kansas City were in bad shape, compared to the roughly 60% that they actually are, I think both cities would be premier urban areas in the country, because what is left, is super nice and interesting.

IS KC really that bad? It doesnt seem to be like St. Louis at all. It's not great but seems pretty average on the whole.
