Overall it depends on what you look for. I think on an excel spreadsheet, Austin wins. In the real world, the energy and lit factor of Nashville is tough to beat for any city that isn't a world renounced tourist destination.
I didn't know Austin was ever ahead of Nashville? I think if lead with stats and not emotion and bias, it's clear Nashville has been and will remain ahead.

You think the stuff on Austin's Excel spreadsheet doesn't reflect what's happening in the real world?
Can someone from Nashville point out where Nashville is leading Austin?
Economic growth?
Population growth?
Wages?
Education?
Development?
Someone posted Austin has more hotels.
As far as I know, Austin leads in every measurable category.
I don’t think many people care about country music in Nashville? Obviously a segment of the population does but. Jobs are far more important than boot scoot & boogies.

Good points! I think Austin leads in every category.
The big area Austin is way behind Nashville in, is professional sports.
Austin does not have the NHL or the NFL like Nashville. Austin is getting MLS, but Nashville has MLS already, as well.
I see Nashville as having a much more distinct "tourism destination" vibe, and it is just now starting to really boom to attract big brand companies, like Oracle, Amazon, Alliance Bernstein, etc.
Austin has been growing fast in the tech sector for about a decade+, so Nashville is behind there.
I think both cities have incredibly bright futures.
Austin has to be careful not to become a pricey, gridlocked Silicon Valley, California. While Nashville has to be careful not to become another sprawly, traffic-nightmare like Atlanta.
