I'm from the South and I get upset when people don't give them it's due. But I also get upset when Southerners turn a blind eye to the garbage it produced and unfortunately, we have produced more garbage than any other region. Admit it. Doesn't make Scarface, Outkast, 8ball and MJG bad. But peeps like Ying Yang Twins, Baby and Mannie Fresh, and Lil Flip was in a class by itself in how garbage they were.
That may be true to an extent, but keep in mind that many people must feel the melody, the bassline, etc. before they even begin to care about lyrics.

Jeezy's new release with Andre 3000 and Jay Z is pretty hot IMO; featuring an old school throwback sample. Since I like the melody, I guess I'll start paying attention to what they have to say next.

PS- Mods, this song has no explicit lyrics whatsoever...

Overall hip hop, I'd have to say:

1. New York City
2. Los Angeles
3. Atlanta
4. Houston
5. Miami
6. New Orleans
7. Chicago
8. Philadelphia
9. Detroit
10. Raleigh

It was kind of hard making that list because on some accounts, I feel like Chicago, Detroit, Philly and New Orleans all fight for that #4 spot and Atlanta, Miami and Houston all fight for #3.

Sorry, my bad, sheesh!

I didn't read back at all, but edited it since you were so tactful and eloquent.

You know what's funny? I actually originally put Oakland. THEN when I tried to post it, my IE stopped working so I had to reopen it and retype my post. The 2nd time, I forgot who I had for #10 and came up with Raleigh (probably because I just recently listened to Little Brother and can think of many NC artists) but Oakland definitely takes a spot over Raleigh.

In my opinion, If you're including Oakland, you should include the entire Bay Area. San Francisco has about as many rappers as Oakland does, and other cities in the bay have plenty as well (especially Vallejo), and they all have similar styles, do albums/tracks together, etc. It makes sense to include the entire bay, especially when you consider that when most people say "Atlanta" or "LA", etc, they're also referring to the suburbs. NWA was from compton for example, but people just lump them in with LA, for obvious reasons.

I'm not from DC, but I think Wale is in the top 5 in the game right now.

Well that's not saying much. Not saying Wale is bad. But for this era in the mainstream, he's great. On the real, DC doesn't even like Wale.
