1. Central Park is more manicured, looks better and boasts more activities that Golden Gate Park.
2. Central Park is more coveted.
3. Central Park is surrounded by much nicer neighborhoods.
4. Central Park is Central Park.
5. Central Park attracts more visitors.
How did I embellish?? I asked him to provide info that I had never seen before and explained my position. Maybe you should keep quiet if you're unable to refrain from being obnoxious.
Have you actually been to either park? They do look nothing alike, other than the fact that both of them are rectangular in shape. But here's a little info for you:
"Golden Gate Park, located in San Francisco, California, is a large urban park consisting of 1,017 acres (4.12 km2; 1.589 sq mi) of public grounds. Configured as a rectangle, it is similar in shape but 20% larger than Central Park in New York, to which it is often compared. With 13 million visitors annually, Golden Gate is the third most visited city park in the United States.
In the 1860s, San Franciscans began to feel the need for a spacious public park similar to Central Park that was taking shape in New York. Golden Gate Park was carved out of unpromising sand and shore dunes that were known as the "outside lands" in an unincorporated area west of then-San Francisco's borders. Although the park was conceived under the guise of recreation, the underlying justification was to attract housing development and provide for the westward expansion of The City. The tireless field engineer William Hammond Hall prepared a survey and topographic map of the park site in 1870 and became commissioner in 1871."
So as you can see, what I said was true. GGP may have been inspired by CP, but it was hardly modeled after it. They don't even resemble each other. Maybe if you get out at some point you'll eventually understand.
And what precisely are you accusing me of embellishing here, genius? Hmmm?? I'm waiting.
1. Golden Gate Park is prettier than Central Park.
2. Golden Gate Park is more coveted by many other people.
3. Golden Gate Park is in an awesome location as well.
4. Golden Gate Park is Golden Gate Park.
5. Everything in NYC attracts more visitors b/c everything there is overhyped. Golden Gate Park doesn't do bad at all in this respect, and I'd choose it any day over Central Park. (Although as I stated before, I do love Central Park and think it is beautiful as well.)
Be quiet, Corky. Put your helmet back on before you injure yourself by bashing your face into your keyboard.
You're pathetic. You spend all this time embarrassing the West Coast by over-boosting your adopted home in LA, and then all of a sudden you become smitten by NYC and are jumping ship to swing from NYC's jock now. Go back to wherever you originated from. I'm gonna guess somewhere deep in OC. Am I right?
WOW! Kudos to San Francisco wit the park they have goin. I definitely need to check it out when i visit the area in April.
Though i feel nothing beats Central parks when it comes to inner city parks.
The amazing skyline that's wrapped around lakes, activities and natural beauty.. The seasons give it a boost like Americanboy said (great winter photos btw) but did you ever see it in Fall?
You can also skate, fall and enjoy the season in winter on the lake

The Japanese Garden at GGP is more manicured than anything at Central Park. Sorry.
Agreed.

Looks who's talking the San Francisco freak who thinks GG park is better please. I had a few up sides, but whatever. I don't see you complaining about every other person that over boost this website with their rancid biases of their own respective hometowns. Oh don't let the door hit you on the way out *jerk*

Central Park is a cultural icon that has been in countless movies and tv shows. This comparison is retarded. Most of the US has not even heard of GG Park which IMHO is nice but it does not have the lure or the prestige. Did i mention that CP is in NY which is on the East Coast? Take that wit cha Jman........

Those are gorgeous photos and I’ve actually been to all those places in the park! I can’t wait until my next visit to New York (this winter).
Also, I thought I’d chime in on what is turning out to be, yet another ugly thread unfortunately. Golden Gate Park is a treasure to the city of San Francisco, one of the best urban parks in the country. It’s enormous, it’s beautiful, and it fits right into the residential neighborhoods that surround it. Plus, it’s on the West Coast.
That being said, I have to go with Central Park. There’s just something about having this oasis right in the middle of Manhattan, the epicenter of urban life in America. It’s amazing to walk these quiet trails under leafy trees, but still see the highrises of the Upper East and West sides looming in the distance. Central Park offers a respite from the noise of New York, but doesn’t sacrifice any urban energy in the process. You feel like you’re right in the middle of a major city, but you feel like you’re a hundred miles away, both at the same time (that’s how I feel anyway).
I think it's that nice contrast offered by Central Park that I like. Golden Gate Park is surrounded by some of San Francisco's lower key neighborhoods, as opposed to CP being surrounded by Midtown, the Upper East Side and the Upper West Side.
Visiting Central Park is not running away from the beloved city since the last time I checked, Central Park is part of Manhattan which is part of New York City. They obviously mean "relax". Just as people go to the beach to "escape". It's not that difficult to comprehend.
oh ok so you can't relax outside of central park you're always tense
make sure your boyfriend massages your shoulders at the end of each day sweetheart

Now what on earth does your post have to do with the well documented fact that Golden Gate Park's designer drew inspiration from Central Park?
Do you need help deciphering the difference between imitation and inspiration? I can certainly help you out with that if it's above your comprehension level.
