While they may be nice, Houston is not a destination city. People do not travel across the world to go on vacation to Houston like they do for NY, LA, Boston, DC, SF, and Chicago.
I've never heard of anyone going on a vacation to LA. Or maybe they're going to see the coast, but they're not going to see Los Angeles itself.
Is anyone in here actually believing that Houston is a cultural tourist destination? I really can't stop laughing at most of the comments saying that it is. I've lived here over 20 years and you would have a difficult time finding any Houstonian outside of this forum that would say we are a cultural city. Most Houstonians would tell you that the city has very little to offer to the locals and even less to offer to tourists. The more we try to convince people we are a cultural city, the less weight our arguments will ever carry when it comes time to defend the city in a more valid thread. I still think Houston doesn't rank in the top 25. I'd love to get the opinions of people who visited the city for it's culture and not for business or to see family or friends. But I doubt you will find anyone outside the Houston metro or Texas that have come here for culture alone.
If I lived outside of Houston and I had time off from work or school to take a vacation I could think of 100 places I'd go to before Houston.

You lost your point once you stated Austin and San Antonio had more cultures. Btw, it was a list that ranked Houston as a top destination city for Asians, Blacks, and Hispanics.
Besides Hollywood, what is there to see in LA that you couldn't see in any other large city?
I'd think if you can find something to enjoy in LA, you could find something to enjoy in Houston, or Dallas, or any large city.
Here is what a vacation to Los Angeles could include:
1. Visiting Hollywood Blvd. and movie studios like Universal Studios, Warner Brothers, etc... This is the A-typical thing to do in L.A. for a tourist.
2. Beach Trip. Funky Venice Beach, Santa Monica and its urban downtown at the sea, and Malibu draw thousands of tourists to the coastal areas of L.A.
3. Many tourists take advantage of the Los Angeles Philharmonic downtown and to visit the iconic Walt Disney Concert Hall or Hollywood Bowl. The famous Pantages Theater is popular for Broadway shows during the vacation.
4. Beverly Hills and Star Home Tours: You would be surprised how many people come to L.A. to just walk down Rodeo Drive, take photos in front of the "Beverly Hills sign" and go on tours of the homes of celebrities. There are probably hundreds of tour buses on any given day driving around to famous folks homes.
5. Museums: The Getty Center and Getty Villa is one of the top rated, most beautiful, and prized art museums in the United States. The views are beautiful as well. The Los Angeles County Museum of Art and Hammer Museum are other top tourist sites in L.A. Exposition Park includes some of the most visited museums in our nation like the California Science Center and site of the Los Angeles Olympics in the famous Coliseum. The Peterson Auto Museum draws auto enthusiasts from all over and is the premier auto museum in the nation. The La Brea Tar Pits are an iconic and unusual site in the middle of the city.
5. Neighborhood Visits: Popular neighborhoods to visit include West Hollywood and hip Melrose St, Los Feliz, Silverlake, the Fairfax District and Grove, and the adjacent city of Pasadena.
6. Downtown: More and more tourists are making downtown a site to visit. So much so that Star Line Tours operates a hop on hop off double decker tour bus around downtown just like in NYC. Popular sites include Olvera Street, Chinatown, Little Tokyo, L.A. Live/Staples Center, Broadway, and the Historic District. Very popular with architecture buffs.
7. Having Disneyland nearby in the suburb of Anaheim helps a ton as well brining thousands of families to So Cal, many of which fly into LAX, visit L.A. for a few days, and then go to Disneyland.
