People always want to compare the East Coast to the Midwest, by comparing New York City and Boston to Bum Fuct, Iowa.

The Midwest (Detroit, Chicago, Kansas City, St louis, Cinci etc.) isn't all that laid back and different from the East Coast.

These last couple of generations of people all grew up listening to the same Hip Hop and Heavy Metal. Watching the same Mtv etc.

Midwest cities have much more in common with the East coast than it does with the South, West Coast, Pacific NW

Instead of comparing New York to Detroit, compare both those to Miami, L.A. or Phoenix and see what you come up with.

I think the great lakes have more in common with the east coast, the plains part of the midwest though including missouri, kansas, iowa, down state il, nebraska have more in common and the people there seem more in common with the south.

Same with St Louis. People jaywalk ridiculously here. The other day I was driving on a major boulevard when some idiots started crossing when we had a green and traffic was moving at 40mph. Cars had to slam on their brakes to keep from, ya know, killing them. It's a constant thing.

It sounds like you are hating on New York, is this true?

What???

I agree with dport. Large midwestern cities have a lot in common with large east coast cities. The current cities infrastructure, layout, etc. was built around the same time, late 19th-early 20th centuries.

The midwest is still slower than the east coast. The attitudes, accents, pace of life, lifestyles, employment etc... You name it!
