I read on SSP that Houston was at 197 back in August so I don't think that 184 for Houston is correct.

That 197 comes from a websiite that includes everything under the sun. I wouldn't be suprised if their number right now is around 250+

I think its more like the lower the numbers, the more pride they have in their city. I wish Atlanta's numbers would be low, but realistically that's not the case.

Chicago is at 343 - tied with it's lowest tally to date since they started keeping track back in the early 1960's.

It's quite skewed across the city:

White:
9 victims out of 920,000 people
2.6% of victims; 0.9/100,000

Hispanic:
63 victims out of 850,000 people
18.4% of victims; 7.0/100,000

Black:
271 victims out of 1,100,000
79.0% of victims; 24.0/100,000

2009 estimates show the Black population fell below a million. Anyway the stats are ugly. Blacks make up 33% of the population, yet nearly 80% of the victims are Black. With all the gangs occupying the Hispanic community, amazing that only 18% of the victims are Hispanics.

Like for 2010 the year isn't over yet, so Dallas has had 207, Houston 184, & Philadelphia 241 but the ones for the previous years are the entire years total or just the same time frame?

The bold numbers are the year total, but the numbers for Dallas are way off since he doesn't take the time to read the reports and can't comprehend the fact that exclude traffic fatalities and Murders that are U classified (justified homicides).

Dallas has 117 murders & 68 traffic fatalities.

I guess I didn't realize the trends were reversing that much. It looks like from 2000:

White population increased by 40,000
Hispanic population incraesed by 30,000
Asian population increased by 25,000
Black population decreased by 130,000

The first time in a few decades there were more whites in the city than blacks.
