Atlanta has a fairly good reputation for gay-friendliness, especially considering it's in the south (not trying to start a fight, just saying) and it has a very high percentage of citizens who identify as LGBT.

The Seattle Times: 12.9% in Seattle are gay or bisexual, second only to S.F., study says

Chicago also is known for having a very large LGBT community, particularly on the north side and some well-known activists have come out of Chicago's gay community.

So in the end which city do you think created a more positive environment for people who identify as LGBT? Which city is more accepting? Which has more visible gay culture?

In America:
SF
then
NYC, Boston, Chicago

Chicago also wins because Illinois will legalize gay marraige way, way, way before Georgia will.

Contrary to popular belief, NYC isn't all that gay friendly.

It seems like from that article that the percentage of LGBT residents correlates with gay friendliness.

Having lived in Chicago (which is where most of my family lives as well), I've never found Chicago to be as gay-friendly as other places. It may have a large gay population, but it doesn't necessarily have a live-and-let-live attitude like many other places (JMO).

Either. Chicago has more gay amminites, but thats probably just because its a bigger city.

Both are gay friendly.

In terms of gay friendliness both are around the same. As for gay things to do. Chicago has more options. Atlanta's gay nightlife has suffered a lot with the recession. Currently the main bars to frequent on weekends tend to be drag bars which isnt exactly everyones cup of tea.

Definitely Chicago. My brother who is married with two little girls lives two blocks from Boystown. Those boys have taken over and constantly hit on my brother and dote on his daughters.

Atlanta, from what I saw, is mostly a black, gay community. I worked near Lenox and lived in Buckhead and the only gay guys I saw were African-American. Of course, this is a generalization, but I have gay friends in DC who tell me that Atlanta is the place to go if you're gay and black.
