And not to come across as a snob but having tall buildings does not = being any sort of version of New York. LOL.

If having tall buildings automatically makes a city some type of New York hybrid, I suppose you consider Houston, Dallas, Pheonix, etc smaller versions of New York? Truth is, Chicago = a dirty version of Dallas. It's a small town (especially small town mentality) with big buildings. New York and Chicago are not on the same class level.

Chicago is cleaner than London and Paris (much lower density). Is Chicago now a cleaner version of London and Paris? LOL.
Phoenix has tall buildings...Dallas is small...?

Since when?

I think you got it the other way around.

people from new york tend to make up for shortcomings or a feeling of inferiority by exaggerating good qualities

CHICAGO = REAL CITY, REAL PEOPLE

NYers do not exaggerate the good qualities we just state the good qualities of NY.

NYC cannot be compared to Chicago. A better comparison would be NYC and LA, or NYC to London.

It matters how your comparing them. New York and LA can be compared with population and entertainment things like that. New York can be compared to Chicago when talking about skylines and overall architecture etc.
