• Approving a $5 million grant agreement with the U.S. Department of Transportation that provides funding for streetscape improvements.
• Approving a $121,065 contract with Cunningham Recreation to install a splash pad at the Bryan Multi-Sports Complex. The budget for the project includes using $21,100 from the unassigned fund balance of the city’s utility fund and $100,000 from donation revenues.
• Approving a rezoning request for a 12-acre property on Central Heights Road, between Oak Forest Drive and Throroughfare Road, from an R-12 residential district to an R-16 residential conditional district for the development of an 84-unit apartment complex.
• Approving a conditional-use permit allowing the operation of an indoor competitive ax and hatchet throwing facility at 2305 E. Ash St., near Ridgewood Drive.
The last one is at the shopping center where the Cloth Barn was originally located.
The city council has hired a new city manager, Tim Salmon, who will start May 1. Also, the rezoning request for the proposed apartment complex on Cuyler Best Road was withdrawn before last night’s meeting began. Looks like the developer saw the writing on the wall...

Funny thing is La Grange had the same thing happen to them. They were going to talk about the potential of this apartment complex of Washington St. near the Town Hall and it was withdrawn before the town had their council meeting. In fact, I did some digging, it's the same firm that was trying to do the Goldsboro location. Guess they didn't plan ahead.

Yeah, they made that pretty obvious when they picked a flood-prone spot. I’d hardly consider myself a NIMBY type, but in this case the nearby residents had very legit concerns, IMO. I used to drive on Cuyler Best Rd almost everyday when I lived in the outskirts of Goldsboro. It was part of my shortcut to US-70 and Spence Ave when I came in on US-13 from the north and turned onto New Hope Rd at the corner where Burger King used to be. It was much easier than dealing with the traffic nightmare at Berkeley Blvd & Royall Ave.
