I remember when it used to be part of IGA years ago.

Were there any other IGA affiliated stores in Wayne County?

The only other IGA I know of was in Pikeville...or so I'm told. The building that Dollar General used to be in before they moved into the former Walmart Express building a few months ago was once a Piggly Wiggly, which was already there when I first moved to Wayne County in 1995. One of my family members worked there at the time and he was told by one of the other employees that the store used to be an IGA before it became a Piggly Wiggly. When that happened, I don't know. All I know is that it changed sometime before 1995.

Wayne McKinney owned that Piggly Wiggly (along with several others in eastern NC) and closed it in 2000, with Dollar General moving in not long after.

Great news! There has been no mention of Lidl in the local newspaper AT ALL since last fall. I was beginning to think that plans had fallen apart.

When I lived in the area several years ago, a lot people drove to Wilson for grocery shopping since Wilson had a better variety of grocery stores than Goldsboro at the time. Many (including me) shopped at Aldi and Fred's Food Club in Wilson. Since Lidl is a competitor to Aldi, this should put Goldsboro on equal footing with Wilson in terms of grocery stores.
