Maybe they can build a new headquarters building downtown.
The majority of their operations and some "HQ" type jobs are in the old First Federal operations building off I-26 in North Charleston. While it would be great to see them build a tower here, I don't know that they would move that many people to Columbia just for a new building. Their building at Gervais and Huger along with the office space up Gervais seems to suit them fine for their size at this point.

So basically Columbia is the HQ in name only? When SCBT merged with First Federal, I thought Columbia would be the major center of operations for the combined company but I guess not.

It is still pretty split between the 2 cities but I know a few people who have taken back office jobs with them and had to move to Charleston as most of the jobs here in Columbia are sales related. I think they are here partly in name for HQ as they might actually have more people working in Charleston.
I saw this in the paper this morning. I'm not sure how bad the traffic is there now, but with Blythewood growing the way that it is, it will be needed. Maybe a slightly more proactive than reactive approach by SCDOT and the state. Now, all we need to do as a state is widen the entirety of I-95 and I-26 throughout the state

There is nothing proactive about this project this is entirely reactive because where they are expanding is an issue already and they are repaving the where they could should be more proactive. Something DOT does need to do is put a flyover for 20 east to 277 north and i77 south to i20 east.
Wider roads only lead to more development and worse traffic problems in the long run.
As long as a city is growing, traffic will naturally increase. It would be dumb not to accommodate it.
