In my opinion, the real "renaissance" is still around the corner. Hard to get too excited about Rose's, Family Dollar, and Big Lots. We'll see what Bob Hughes has to unveil for the baseball stadium project hopefully soon. The article in this past Sunday's State paper was essentially a rehash of old news. Columbia still has some major catching up to do. Just peruse the other forums like this elsewhere in SC.

@daddo 61 that's all true but the retail momentum is real and the onslaught of new residential downtown means there will be lots of follow through but ya it's just getting started and incidentally re retail 9 tines out if ten new retail is mentioned in this forum at least a week or two ahead of thestate

Plus, just because the Columbia region can be a hard shell to crack for some of these national retailers, as evidenced by their statements when they do announce that they've looked for the right spot for years, it doesn't mean we're behind in general as far as the availability and quality of merchandise is concerned.

Looks to be a gas station.

Anyone know what grocery store is being referenced here?
RICHLAND COUNTY, SC: Some along Clemson Road feeling saturated by growth | Local News | The State

I can't think of who would be building there. There's already a Bi-Lo at VaS just a couple miles up Clemson, a Publix and a Food Lion up Hard Scrabble, Kroger is building at Killian Crossing at 77 and Walmart is across 77. Aldi is three miles away or so, and Piggly Wiggly is all but dead as a chain (and one closed this year not a mile away from this site). Who's left? IGA?

I sense a Walmart Neighborhood Market on Clemson Road. It has stores that are 41,000 square feet in size, are open 24 hours, have pharmacies, and have fueling stations.

Kroger and Publix are the only other chains constructing new stores at the moment.

I'm glad, there's no need to build one.

There's an empty anchor spot across the road and another a stone's throw away.

Yeah, there was no need to put up another grocer OR another gas station there, nor the additional traffic light that would have come with it. And Christ, *another* Walmart in the area? There are two within a five-mile radius of that location, which is already about six too many.
