I think the reason some residents don't want to concentrate on the Buckeyes as being an asset is because they want to avoid the stigma that cities such as Pittsburgh have regarding sports. I currently live in "The Burgh" and even though this city has so much to offer, this Steelers mentality the locals possess goes beyond obsession. Assaults, vandalism and yes manslaughter have occured, all in the name of their Black & Gold. Your team dedication can determine advancements in the workplace and community acceptance. Wear a Cowboys or (God forbid) Browns logo and chances are you're not getting that promotion or proper service at retail establishments. With that said I think it's great that C-bus has the spirit for the Buckeyes but doesn't dwell on the team as a primary interest. Unlike Pittsburgh, locals in Columbus are warm, friendly and welcoming to everyone. A city that has little tollerance for someone wearing a Patriots jersey, doesn't have tollerance for other diversity in their community. So be proud of your city and your Buckeyes while continuing to show the world you're interests go beyond the 50 yard line :-)

have a friend who has seasons tickets every year from the buckeyes.

He is a graduate of the University of Michigan and enjoys watching the buckeyes play. Last year he offered me his Michigan tickets. Surprised, I asked why. He explained that it is not safe to take his wife. The know he is a Michigan grad. During the last Michigan / Ohio State game the repeatedly called his wife a ***** for being married to a Michigan grad. They also continuously got spit on.

He goes to the games that don't involve Michigan but considers it unsafe to go to the Michigan game.

There is a saying that; "an Ohio State fan would punch a pregnant woman in the stomach for a ticket".
I always thought it was a joke in poor taste. Sometimes I wonder.

I hope that was an isolated incident. When I was at OSU for grad school, we had a block of tickets and two of my buddies had come from undergrad at U of M. While they did get a healthy bit of talk, nobody ever spit on them or was extremely disrespectful. Of course my friends gave it right back too.

While it is something you see sometimes at OSU, it is unfortunately a mentality that goes along with some sports fans, regardless of sport. I spent an afternoon outside a soccer stadium for a game when I was in Prague, they made OSU fans look like saints. I can remember going to a storm game (now the "walleyes") in Toledo, wow, same reaction.

You are correct. I live in Florida and my wife and I want to leave here in the next few years. I grew up in Akron and while I don't want to go back there I think Columbus might be a better pick. Florida has a huge problem with insurance and it's not going to get any better. The schools are generally, substandard and it's darn hot.

I grew up in Ohio, then moved to California, now living in Shanghai. I have to say of all the places I've been to I think Ohio is the best, I love it, it's just the best place on earth.

I drove to Columbus on July 22 for 3 days with my wife and son and we thought it was an undiscovered gem! Your city is very clean, has plenty of trendy restauraunts, and the best shopping ever. I love my Michigan but we have nothing as cool as Easton Towne Center. And the best part was: we walked across busy High St.(around noon) and the drivers actually stopped for us. There were even cyclists! Crossing back over the Mich. state line to encounter the bumpy roads and speeders made us think we were going to some hostile culture. Anyway, we hope to return in October, now that we know our way around a bit.

LOL I notice the exact same thing when entering Michigan. Those roads are terrible, and I must have looked like an idiot swerving all those potholes. It amazed me, it seemed like every road hadn't been updated in 30 years.

Anyway, Columbus is right up there with Indianapolis as the most progressive cities in the Midwest. Columbus is putting billions of dollars in development in downtown, and I am sure you explored some of the great city neighborhoods of Short North, Victorian Village, German Village, Arena District, etc. A diverse economy, with the largest university in North America, plenty of fortune 500 companies, and so much more make a very livable and attactive area to live in.

When you come back in October, re-visit the forum, and we can direct you to some more of the endless things Columbus has to offer.
