Okay, so i'm transferring colleges and i'm thinking about moving up to Hartford, CT. I would just like a little insight before I make the decision. I would be transferring to the University of Hartford btw.
I just want to know what I should expect if I decide to move up there? I'm from the rural lower Eastern Shore of Maryland and i've never been anywhere north of Philadelphia (and when I went there I was very young). What should I expect culture wise (way of life), weather, people, etc? I hear gangs up there are bad, is that so? Are there a lot of Hispanic/Spanish speaking people? Will I stick out like a sore thumb with my slow southern accented way of speaking and relaxed way of dressing? (with tooth pick in mouth
)
Thanks for your help! I know almost nothing about New England but would really love the new atmosphere.

On campus most definitely, but I would love to get to know the city if I decided to go there.

The people here are not unfriendly, they are reserved and respect people's privacy. If you approach someone they will be friendly and helpful. The summers have their hot days but they are no where near as hot as southern states. The winters can be cold but not nearly as cold as you will find up north. Connecticut is somewhat expensive but it is less expensive than New York City to the south and Boston to the north.
Hartford is a small city. The metropolitan area has about 1 million people. It is a nice city but some people may find it quiet. UHart is located in West
Hartford which is a beautiful suburban town with a wonderful downtown area. The area is generally very nice. I think you will like it. Jay

Do you drive? I'm assuming you do since you are from a rural area. Hartford was just rated by jalopnik.com (a car website) and the 7th worst city in Amerca to drive in... and I agree. I drive here every day for work and it sucks.

I just moved here a month ago from the West Coast and I think you should not listen to people from here. People in CT hate the fact that they are from CT and they constantly crap all over it for some weird reason.

We do drive for the most part here. It wouldn't be a problem for me because there is no way I would drive to CT and back to see my family though. Most likely a bus. Thanks for the info though
