This is nonsense. Deals are still getting done. New Haven will recover fine; it has massive, wealthy institutions with lots of high paying jobs, and a need for apartments.

College towns will recover faster/stronger than most places, IMO.

I have a family member in commercial real estate development in CT. He has about 8 active projects right now in different levels of the process, many close to finalized. Nothing has been cancelled (yet) and there's been no talk of slowing down (yet).

That is correct. This is not a financial crisis like in 2008. Jay

It began as a public health crisis but it is still most definitely a financial crisis. Does it really matter if it is like 2008? You don't get a $2 trillion dollar stimulus package if it is not a major economic crisis.

I did not say this was not a financial crisis. I said it was not like what happened in 2008. In 2008 there were serious problems in the financial industry due to a lot of very poor loans given out. This problem radiated throughout the industry and was significant enough to nearly cause its collapse. Because of that, our government implemented a series of safeguards and tests to prevent that from happening again. Those tests have shown the financial industry is very strong and can withstand a serious shock.

This is a serious shock but it’s pretty certain it is one the financial industry can withstand because of its current strengths. The safeguards are doing their jobs. If this type of crisis came back in 2007 it’s pretty certain our financial industry would have collapsed and a $2 trillion stimulus package would not be enough. We likely could do less but our leaders want to be aggressive to jump start the economy and hopefully return it to its previrus condition. Jay

Despite the ban on public gatherings, New Haven City Plan approved two projects, a 9 story apartment building on Crown Street and an addition to the old Chapel Square Mall. Great additions to the city. Jay

A new center I'm working with is on hold cause they pulled the financing. 30M
So it's all about timing. Not many will want to loan now knowing rents are not getting paid.
Cheesecake, 5 guys just said we're not paying rent for 4 months.
There's more and they are prime tenants.

To quote the young lady in the video (city zoning Director)

“It’s a challenging time, but we will all figure it out together,” she said.

Now that's how things get done in CT and the USA. She is a true American fighter. Fantastic!

New Haven Cityplan approved Yale’s massive $838 million Neuro Science Center but sadly the start of construction has been delayed due to the Covid-19 virus outbreak. Here’s hoping that will change soon. Jay
