I'm surprised no one has posted about the storms blowing through! We had a mild storm, it sounded bad with lots of lightning in the distance, but when it finally hit it wasn't much of a storm. It seemed like the worst of it went completely around us. We did get some rain, though. I heard from a neighbor that the Merritt is a mess right now.

I don't know if it's the same one that blew threw Sound Shore part of Westchester and Greenwich but I drove into a small but intense 'whopper' between Greenwich and New Rochelle coming down 95 from Greenwich around 5pm today. We left visiting our friend early because we saw the dark cloud to our west/south.

Not me, but I'm not buying it either, the range of 100 degree temps is very narrow and if it were 104 in NYC it would be that (or at the lowest 102) or more in Philly, Baltimore, DC, etc.

Also, the 101 it shows for Buffalo would be that city's all time high (I believe they have NEVER hit 100 but have several 99's) and the similar temperature it shows for Rochester would be pretty historic. Also, if those two cities in western NY State hit 100, a lot of other places surrounding them would too.

I think 100 in Newark is likely one of the days of the heat wave, and a big * maybe * in NYC and Hartford (but I'm betting on 96-99 in those 2 locales). Maybe 90-95 in Bridgeport/New Haven and around 90 in New London/Groton (where I'm going to be for the day on Tuesday so I'm smiling......)

Looks bad according to Google traffic. 95 seems worse - gridlocked from Norwalk to Bridgeport.

Gees..I mention road disaster, nothing happens. I dont mention a storm coming and its a mess. Lots of flash flooding including 4 feet of water in Winnipuk Village. I-95 cars stuck in flooding too.

Had hail mixed in the torential downpours. 2.65" of rain here today. had to deal with backyard flooding. Lightning and thunder were insane for an hour.

NWS is worthless. It seems like they constantly issue Severe Thunderstorm Watches/Warnings in the summer, yet, it has been thundering and lightning for 7 hours now and they never issued anything.

Yeah, sometimes I dont get that myself however, in your case last night, the storm wasnt coming toward you, it was over Long Island or North of you. The Lightning & Thunder was VERY impressive being that we constantly heard it and saw flashes. But yeah, they wont issue a warning if the storm isnt coming towards you.

We had another storm come through just after I posted yesterday, and again around midnight last night. If I hadn't been so tired I would have gotten up to watch, it was a bigger storm than what we had earlier. Nothing like what they had along the Merritt, though. Don't feel bad Cambium, I didn't see much in the way of storm predictions yesterday, the Ct. stations were predicting a slight chance of storms. Later I had two text alerts from WTNH telling me FFC had a t'storm warning until 7, I think it was. Also got some flood watch alerts for FFC. I didn't get anything for the midnight storm. Sometimes I get two alerts in a row. I'm not crazy about the 4:00 a.m. alerts for air quality etc., though. I need to have a look and see if I can limit them somewhat.

Here we go again.

Since June was just slightly above normal at several NWS stations (and even slightly below at a few as well), I was thinking a very typical July and August for much of the Tri-State area. Yet, so far this month we seem to have slipped right back deep into hotter and drier than normal conditions: NWS Bridgeport is now running more than 5 F above normalnot a single day this month had normal or below normal mean temps. There looks to be some closer to average heat by this coming weekend (mid 80’s) but certainly no below normal temps for the rest of the month (or close to it). Bridgeport might be looking at the 17th consecutive month with above normal temperatures if this occurs.

Also, the monthly mean temperature at Bridgeport has been 78.8 F….that’s not far off the normal July monthly mean temperature for Richmond, Virginia (79.2 F). 2012 seems to be heading for the warmest year on record at NWS Bridgeport if things don’t change and very soon:
