Seasonable days, chilly nights. No real sustained extremes either way still. Those double digits popping up like they are here is what I was looking for in March. I guess we got spoiled in recent years seeing 50s/60s in March. lol

The 9th & 10th keeps showing a chilly couple days.
I bet we come in below normal for April. It looks like 50/60s and 30's at night. No real warm up in sight just yet. The cold to our North just wont let go.

National Weather Service : Observed Weather for past 3 Days : Danbury Municipal Airport
I call B.S. on that 21. Clearly a malfunctioning temperature gauge. And it's not "typical" for eastern LI to have radiational cooling any different than anywhere else. Simply means clear skies

Google Long Island Pine Barrens. They have their own micro climate . No malfunctions. From NWS Upton.

A chilly start this Sunday morning! Light winds and clear skies allowed temperatures to drop fairly well overnight, especially around the LI Pine Barrens -- see the temp of 21 at Westhampton!

National Weather Service : Observed Weather for past 3 Days : Westhampton Beach, The Gabreski Airport

We're starting our warm-up now. Westhampton Beach jumped from 21 to 35 in one hour!

It is a malfunction. There's something wrong with the way they are recording temperatures there
Saranac lake, ny(a valley in the adirondacks and one of the coldest stations in the northeast) got down to 25 degrees. But if you really want to believe that coastal outer long island got down to 21 then go right ahead. Just like the banana belt of ct, coastal LI, especially the farther east you go, really has trouble getting very cold with minimum temperatures. There's something wrong with that weather station in LI. Period. Groton, north of that station, was also totally clear with the same winds and got down to 34. Trust me the "pine barrens" of LI are not colder than upstate ny.(or even ct) LOL

Yeah, pretty typical, I see it happen a lot there but always a scratch your head OBS when it does.. There was a whole conversation about this I forget where. Either here, weather forum or on Uptons Facebook page. Was an interesting discussion regarding that area getting prime radiational cooling effects.

While they were the lowest of anyone west of the appalacians, I hit 28° this morning. 7 degrees cooler at Westhampton isn't that big a difference.

Danbury hit 24°.
Even Atlantic City hit 29°.
Sommerville, NJ hit 26°

Seems plausible, unless you doubt that Bridgeport number also.

Bdr got down to 33. If a bunch of stations in the same geographic area were reporting than yes I'd buy it as a fluke time coastal LI was colder than saranac lake.

There is no way that station got to 21...when 10 miles north it was 38...no way.
