Bufflo's old record is 81 inches for ONE STORM. So looks like this one might go down in the record books. 60 inches now reported.

Buffalo, N.Y., area in the midst of a truly insane lake effect snow storm

History in front of our eyes (not literally). Makes our 6-12" snowstorms look like flurries.

New posts are sick. Hope the roofs hold up.

23 degrees here right now. Wood stove working hard.

Are you SURE you want to live out here now? You've been warned!

They would have to pay me AT LEAST $500,000 a year to live out there!!
Ha ha, poor Nep!

You have to factor in the global warming effect and that should make any move to the lake-effect area smoother, at least in theory. Fairfield County, CT is as far north as I will ever live. From here there is only one direction for me and that is south! A few years ago I almost moved, but I'm starting to play with the idea again. CT is giving me a hint with this blast of cold air at such an early time.

The weird thing is how "local" the snow really is though. There is a Buffalo suburb Cheektowaga where the northern half of town got 1-3" and 5 miles away the southern half of town got 5 FEET! That is some gradient......

Nep, if you really move there live north of the city between Buffalo and Niagara Falls, they are away from the lake and get a lot less snow (though more than here or Hartford still). That's how my sister does it (her job is north of the city too).

So far BDL low today is 20° which is the first time since 3/27. Mean is 11/25 so its about the time to hit, about a week early.

Bridgeport low so far is 23, last time was 3/27, earliest hitting that since 1996. Mean 12/2. So 2 weeks early for them.

Current temps mostly from 6am OBS. About 10-20 below norm, (not extreme) Dewpoints in single digits.
