The argument was that the SoNo Collection serves a different customer than Trumbull. Trumbull is a more middle class mall while SoNo will be high end. Of course there is some overlap since Trumbull does have a Lord & Taylor but overall they are different. Jay

They may be justified. Not by competition from SoNo though. The retail world has changed drastically over the past 30 years. The mall owners have invested a lot in buying adjacent properties but the chances of the mall expanding further are slim to none. They now have a lot of extra land that has little or no retail purpose. It makes sense to allow residential use there now. Heck much of that land was residential prior to being bought by the mall. The Trumbull Mall was recently bought by a French company in the last year. Remember in the movie Wall Street when this happened..........

We (many people in Trumbull) think it might be something like this is going on and the new mall in Norwalk is cover. The new mall owners wanted the zone change ON THE ENTIRE 75 ACRES of the mall to put up apartments. Get the picture now?

About the bolded above, the new mall owners have done nothing to the mall.

Good news for South Norwalk growth

"with 106 studio, one- and two-bedroom units above ground-floor retail and tenant amenity space with on-grade and structured parking at 5 Chestnut and 20 and 24 Monroe streets."

"The existing buildings at 5 Chestnut as well as 20 and 24 Monroe streets will be razed. The historic Leroy Shirt Building at 11 Chestnut St. will be reshaped into 16 additional residential units atop 11,000 square feet of ground-floor retail and office space."

I like that the design tries to engage people on streer level and that it’s being done in conjunctiom with the development of multi-unit housing nearby. That being said, I think it’s odd to have those two factors but not something more utilitarian to go along with traditional mall trappings like a grocery store.

You mad at this vs what the mall will be offering and how it's helping improve that area of Sono?

I know this is about the Norwalk Mall but the two closest mall are Stamford and Trumbull (my mall) which will be affected by it.

My Trumbull mall is going to be getting an aquarium in it which I think is really awesome.

And I have changed my mind on the apartments near the Trumbull Mall. I think they are needed to increase traffic in the Trumbull Mall.
