Temps will in the 30s most of the day today and climb into the low 40s for CT. Winds wont be as strong as yesterday. We moderate and warm up after today.

1-3 Feet of snow fell with this Lake Effect Snow Event. Those folks will be digging out all day today. Should be a nice and cold sunny day

Regarding this... this is what has been crazy but easy to forecast. It's pretty simple why too.

First ... this was last year this time.. A typical scene where the polar Jet stream was able to sink down all the way into the U.S and it was just cold. This jet stream waved (as usual) but this was how easy it was ... Storm tracks were either clipper style or up the coast.

This year ... This has been the scenario..

Jet Stream is dipping in the West and therefore storm tracks have been towards the Great Lakes with a Ridge in the East (WARM). Not even close for snow storms even for New England. Although Maine benefited since the Jet dipped south there.

We need a fundamental (and fast) change somewhere in the Pacific or North Pole A.S.A.P to have a snowy, cold rest of winter. Not happening next 2 weeks

Speaking of close.. For the first time, I'm seeing a storm go from the South to Tennessee and Mid Atlantic NOT from the south to the Great Lakes! What that's means is .. Instead of warm air rising from the south and getting a front only, High Pressure in Quebec can feed cold air down and also allow for the Jet stream to push down in the East. In other words.. Snow chances.

Latest GFS12z looks Slow moving too. But it's a slop fest for I-95 & Big cities with rain to snow to rain to wet snow. But for PA & MA and Interior NY, NJ & CT it's a nice snowstorm. Details Details. Lets figure out the storm path first!

OKX posted an interesting record on their Facebook site.

The record for fewest December days with a low below 32 in Central Park is 4 set way back in 1923. We have a good chance of breaking that in fact long range show we may not have ANY such days. Since there were none in November either (one night had a low of exactly 32) that would shatter the latest "first" low of 31 or less, which is Dec. 22 of both of 1998 and 2001 (both of which begat almost snowless winters by the way)

BOX posted something interesting on their Facebook page too. Hartford's record for latest first measurable snow is a lot later than I expected as its only 3 days before NYC's record so they have a ways to go. Their record is January 26, 1928. I wonder what BDR's record is.

Hit or miss. Not every neighborhood gets big amounts but if you're lucky to be in one of them, yeah, pretty interesting to live through.

I'll be updating this thread with any Lake Effect Snows
