Interesting, especially when (for Central Park given the long record) the previous record was:

The NY Times actually had an article about this today. They are claiming it is March 1945 at 8.6 degrees above normal, but I think they are wrong and that it is actually January 1932, which I believe was about 10-11 degrees above depending on the averages then (though if you click on the link in the article itself it takes you to the 1981-2010 averages and it does come out to 8.6 degrees above, on that bases January 1932 was 10.2 degrees above normal). In that sense this December is probably comparable to January 1932:

Interestingly, using that chart this February was 11.4 BELOW normal, while I bet some of those infamously cold 1800s months were more below normal, I bet it was the most below for any month in a long time......my guess for the last time a month was that much below normal is January, 1977

Changes look like they are coming. Looks to start around New Years Eve.

Lets call it seasonable for now with more "chances" at getting snow and cold.

We'll have to see if after the seasonable trend we drop to well below normal trend or simply go back to well above normal pattern

Sounds like December 1989 in reverse......was well below normal all the way to New Year's Eve but then the rest of the winter was warm and snowless (and actually that December despite being so cold was pretty snowless too).

Now that I think about it, that's another somewhat "modern" month that was close to 10 degrees BELOW normal (using the 1981-2010 stats, in Central Park it was 9.8 degress below normal).

Hartford Average Temp for month of December. Looks like Decembers have been on the up and up and now with this move like this the moving averages will spike hard as well. Insane. At least its happening in December, not July.

Don't worry... Points out west are experiencing near record cold so its not everyone.

Everybody have a great holiday. I'm flying out to Santa Fe for Christmas tonight and can't wait to get out of this disgusting warmth.

This is what a Christmas forecast should look like.

Cam- I can't wait for the storm out there this weekend. Looks like they are going to get buried out there.

Saw you posted this on the weather forum.
