1) First of all OT, but what concetutes a "city" vs. a "town." I've always wondered about this,. If going by population size I think Fairfield & Westport should be considered cities but those are just "towns." If going by square acres than I don't think New Britain or New London should be a "city." A combination of the 2, i.e. total population divided by number of square acres?? If that's the case I don't think Stamford would make the cut.

2) There's not really any appealing cities in the state. I'd say New Haven & Stamford have the only 2 appeal. Hartford is a ghost town after 6 and on the weekends unless UConn has a game. New London has the ferries to Orient Point & Block Island but that's about it, Bridgeport has literally nothing to offer, same with New Britain & Waterbury. Meriden, Middletown, Norwich & Danbury I wouldn't consider "cities" see above #1.

We've recently moved to the area and have spent a little time in New London. It's gritty... But it's also got potential. It's in a great location is a transportation center and even has a number of surprisingly good restaurants.

The problem is, I'm not sure what New London would coalesce around... New Haven has Yale. Hartford has the downtown core. New London has a lot of industrial harbor.

There are some diamonds in the rough, but, I wouldn't want to live there.

New London is amazing. They are working on reducing the crime rate there and YNHHS is buying the hospital out. The area is near Mystic and great foodie places. You have great shopping area's, Casino's, music/theater spots, and great golf. Only downside is not many public college's and not much in terms of commercial development. If Eastern CT opened a branch in New London be huge. You do have large private university campuses such as Conneticut College, The Coast Guard Academy, and Mitchell College.

You also have some of the best beaches in CT in the area, great state park's, lots of attractions, and Fort Trumbull.

You are near Providence have a ferry to Block Island.

Traffic flow of New London is one of the best of the larger cities in CT.

What part of CT do you say you are from again Run? Your posts are curious as of late.

As much as I like the eastern shoreline, New London is FAR from "amazing". Have you ever actually been there?

College Street Music Hall is a really nice old theater that became a hit as a venue. It's really the only of its kind in CT (large standing room).

In some parts it's run down closer to the highway. Near the college's it's not bad or hospital. Taking in surrounding area of a 10 minute drive offers some of the best amenities in the state.
