Meriden is not too bad either. If I had to rank cities be New Haven, Stamford, New London, Danbury, Norwalk, New Britain, Meriden, Hartford, Bridgeport, and Waterbury.

Crimes not the issue. Lived in Waterbury close to 25 year's. Roads are on poor shape, school's struggle, traffic is terrible, and not much to see or do. At least in Bridgeport you have netter roads and pan go to places.

New London has the Hot Rod Cafe and many other restaurants on Bank Street with outdoor decks in the back overlooking the Thames River. You can sit outside there and watch the ferries and trains pass by. Nice spot in the warmer months.

Then you need to get out. All city schools struggle even though plenty of kids from city schools move onto successful colleges and jobs. Danbury actually has a huge problem right now with the high school population -not that the kids are bad, but there's about 4,000 students in the high school. Crime is nothing in Waterbury compared to other cities and their "traffic" isn't even close to New Haven or Bridgeport's issues. The 84 project is being done by the state and while Waterbury (and Cheshire, Prospect, anyone having to go by) will suffer for a few years, the benefits will be great. As far as what there is to do, that's in the eye of the beholder. I've been pleasantly surprised by activities, parks and services available in Waterbury...and those are just the public opportunities. But yes, if you are a twenty something single person then you need to check out elsewhere.

Trust me grew up in Waterbury moved out for 3 year's came back for cheaper living. Waterbury roads are congested filled with pot holes. It's a nightmare to travel through Waterbury I try to avoid it for that reason one reason stopped going downtown to the YMCA. Most area's are unsafe unless on the outskirts of the city.

I guess I'm reckless because I'm at the Y at least twice a week and my kids are in summer programs there.

There are some diamonds in the rough, but, I wouldn't want to live there.
the old reliable "it's got potential" reference.
Seems to be a common theme with these CT cities
