I don't know about West Haven, but Fairfield Metro always has tons of spots. Milford never really fills either.
Does it? Someone posted here that the lot gets full now. I confirmed that with a friend who commutes out of there. I think there are spaces earlier in the morning but it fills up later in the morning. I could be wrong though. Jay
I am actually considering moving back to CT to be able to go into my firm's NYC office 1-3 days per week rather than being totally remote. Interesting how the commuting situation has changed since I was living there and commuting back in the late 90s through 2014. My previous experience was using the East Norwalk, Darien, Noroton Heights and Greenwich stations. The decision as to which town to move to and which train station to commute from (in the event they cannot be one and the same) is not as straightforward as it used to be. Would love to live in southeastern CT but Shoreline East just does not run often enough. Would love to live in Redding or similar towns north of the shore in FFC but either the connecting lines do not run often enough or the combined driving to a main line station and then taking the train are a bit hectic.

I am not sure how different things are than they were in the 90’s. If anything it is better. There are more and newer trains, plus there are new stations in Fairfield and West Haven that offer more commuting options. You might consider living in Easton (Easton is similarly rural and shares schools with Redding) and commuting out of the new Fairfield Metro Center. Or you could live in Orange or Woodbridge and commute out of the new West Haven Station or Milford. Jay

Fairfield Metro? Not even close to full, ever. I commuted there for a while until a couple months ago because of permit issues at Milford. It's a huge lot.

I usually got there around 830AM.
West Haven is in much worse situation. The spot pay option is only available after 9:00am on those permit parking spots. I had couple of situations in late 2018 that I went to work late, may be 8:40am , definitely before 9:30am. Couple of cases I was forced to park outside WH parking lot, and I did have semi-annual parking permit. I suspected that sometimes some spot paid riders violated rule that took the permit spot before 9:00am. Not intentionally, probably only after trying park and pay and found later enable to pay, then decided hell with it, just ride the train and took spots from regular permit riders.

It is slower now though. Until many repairs are done we won’t go back to pre-2013 speeds, which were up to 10+ minutes faster.
In fact, for now it will only get slower as they play catch up on deferred maintenance.
