Problem is, we were coming off Malloy.

Lamont isn't hated as much as Malloy was, so I think Stefanowski will have a harder time with this one (unfortunately).

Agreed he is a bad choice

With the likely overturning of Roe v Wade, CT Republicans are going to have a steep hill to climb in the coming election cycle. Crime, economy, etc is going to be far less important to a huge percentage of female voters even in CT where abortion access isn’t at risk.

Have you forgot that Lamont was touted as another Dan Malloy, the least popular Governor in the country? The Republicans should have won by a landslide but instead they lost. That’s pretty pitiful. Jay

See our thread on Connecticut’s Republican Party for that answer. What is the old saying about the definition of insanity? Repeating the same thing over and over and expecting a different outcome. Jay

Initially I thought Lamont would skate through but the influx of unwoke pro-life NYers into the State the last couple of years could tilt in favor of the Pubs.

Honestly, I lived out of state during that time, so I wasn't following as closely, but I did hear that.

Yes, I do. Despite a terrible departing Governor Malloy, CT Dems chose wisely in Lamont, who was still able to beat Stefanowski. CT GOP missed out on a great pickup opportunity. Mark Boughton, Erin Stewart are the types of Republicans that CT voters can get on board with. Stefanowski is not it.

I'm a Republican who owns a good amount of real estate in FFC. I would love to see Republican's in the Governors chair and the Assembly.

100%. Erin Stewart is the future in my opinion but she has a young child right now and may be putting off larger plans for a few years.

It may have significant impacts at the midterms in other states, too. In these elections, the president's party almost always does poorly. Even in the '80s, during the so-called "Reagan Revolution", Republicans got their asses kicked in 1982 and in 1986. Democrats will definitely lose some Congressional districts, but if abortion is outlawed in several states, this will likely have dire consequences for some Republicans, even in red states. Because here's the thing: Once Roe is overturned, it won't end here. These same people touting limited government will then go after birth control, and then later marriage equality.

U.S. Senate to vote Wednesday on abortion rights bill, Schumer says
https://www.reuters.com/world/us/us-...ys-2022-05-08/

The U.S. Senate will vote on legislation to codify abortion rights into law on Wednesday in reaction to the leaked draft decision indicating the Supreme Court is poised to overturn its landmark 1973 Roe v. Wade ruling, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer said on Sunday.

"Choice should not be up to a handful of right-wing justices. Choice should not be up to a handful of right-wing politicians. It's a woman's right. Plain and simple," he said.

It will be very interesting to see what happens here.
