So far as of 7pm EST, the warmest temperature in the continental US today was 78 in Phoenix. If it holds there or no one else in the continental US goes over 80 degrees, that is rare even in the dead of winter (when many locations in southern parts of FL, TX, AZ and/or CA still go over 80 on a given day), let alone in November.
No doubt that cold air made deep into the sunbelt. You got me curious so I checked…looks like NWS Ft. Lauderdale, FL hit 78 F yesterday too. But farther north, it WAS cooler, St. Pete/Tamps only hit 61 and Orlando only 59 F! Interesting and hard to believe that Groton here in Connecticut hit 42 F yesterday – only 16 F cooler than Orlando 1200 miles south.

In any event…looks pretty decent for rest of week into the weekend with moderating temps and maybe some rain showers on Friday night:

We never year about the positive signs of some weather extremes. Do you know how much we are saving in snow removal and salt?

BTW... NYC stats, wow!
I'm surprised that late February 1972 through December 1973 does not show up but up well. Late February 1972 (I want to say February 23) was a slopfest that left about 5" or so in nearby Westchester. December 1972 had about 2" in Westchester but I think Bridgeport was lower. December 1973 had a weird snow-ice mixture. We did get around 2" on January 29, 1973 but I think the changeover from rain was later in Bridgeport.

Again, I dont know how you do it by memory. I always have to look for a memory. I'm blaming the pesticides! lol

And good catch, close one!

Feb 19, 1972 Bridgeport had 4.6"
Feb 23-24, 1972 Bridgeport had 3.1" total but each day had less than 2"

Reason why your time frame isnt showing up is because March 12, 1972 they got 3"
January 29, 1973 they got 3.8"

That makes sense as far as February 1972. I know the rain/snow line shifted a few times during the January 29, 1973 storm, creating wildly varying accumulations. School was canceled that day.

I definitely take issue with any March 12, 1972 event. I attach a thumbnail of a screenshot of the March 13, 1972 weather page of the New York Times, which shows the previous day's weather. Definitely no 3" of snow at KBDR as the temps, from NYC to BOS were above freezing, with a touch of rain. I know you are getting it from a source, but believe me, I was in the weather club from my school that year; 3" would have been a memorable event. As it was, those were fairly common in the 1973-4 winter, and there were one or two in 1974-5, my junior and senior years.

Thanks for the compliment though on my memory. It is moderately good.

Another somewhat related stat about yesterday I learned:

EVERY state in the US (including Hawaii) had at least one location that was below freezing at some point (I assume the northernmost parts of the Florida panhandle, in Hawaii I'm guessing the top of Mauna Kea or Mauna Loa, which are well over 10,000 feet above sea level and even on rare occasion get snow!)

Interesting. Looking at the hourly I see why snow accumulated and why you're skeptical.

All Snow fell from midnight to 2am then started changing over. If you look at the visibility you'll see it was under 1 mile those hours. That means heavy snow was falling so it would of accumulated then but after sunrise probably gone from the rain and fog.

Thanks for looking into this for me. Maybe the conditions were different in Westchester County. Certainly neither 1971–2 or 1972–3 or anything we wish to have repeated. Rest with your pretty much was a repeat of 1971–1972. Even the cold snaps happened the same way; exceedingly short bursts with extreme low temperatures and extremely high winds. That freshman year of high school was also miserable from a personal point of view.

Yes, that I’m not as surprised about. Locations as far south as extreme south Georgia/northern Florida have average lows in the mid 40’s F by late November/early December. Not too usual when lows slip a few degrees below freezing.

But yesterday WAS cold. They said on the news tonight that the high temperature of only 40 F yesterday at Bridgeport was tied for the 10th coldest daily high for the date since records were kept (1948 – 2022). In 74 years, only nine other times was the daily high below 40 F on November 28th at NWS Bridgeport. The normal high for the date is 49F and the record high is 65 F. lol.

Fortunately we should be closer to normal on Thur - Fri (47 - 50 F).

Water temperatures are still in the 50s on the Long Island Sound and well off the coast.
40s closer to the coast.

30s in New London
