I think he is guilty, and his original six year sentence too light. The prosecution appealed and it got extended to 13 years 5 months. Personally, I think he deserved life.
However, I vehemently disagree with the idea that the government should be able to appeal a sentence and make it longer. He got six years, yeah it's too short, but that's what he got sentenced to in his original trial.
I don't think the prosecution could appeal in the USA and make the sentence longer. He'd still have however long he got sentenced to in his original trial.
While the media was swooning over him in his hey day as some sort of role model and hero, I never liked the guy. He was an arrogant hypocrite, and not surprised at all he'd be mad enough to kill his girlfriend in a jealous rage.

I really liked him back when he was an Olympian, but then I read something about him that made me kind of wonder about his character. It had something to do with owning lots of guns and Rottweilers or pit bulls, I can't remember now. (This was long before he shot Steenkamp). And then I started to wonder about him. I also remember his brother had some legal problem with an accident-related death of someone, but I think the charges were dropped. I wonder if these kinds of problems run in the family.
I can't believe this debate is continuing on here, shooting into a closed bathroom door instead of running out of his place if he really had thought there was an intruder.... I mean, really does this warrant a lengthy debate??

Probably not, at least as far as I'm concerned. An insecure control freak with anger issues mixed with firearms. The results were no surprise, except for the light sentence.
South African Paralympic champion Oscar Pistorius could be considered for parole, after serving half his sentence for murdering his girlfriend, an official and a lawyer said Monday.
The athlete shot dead Reeva Steenkamp in the early hours of Valentine's Day in 2013 when he fired four times through the door of his bedroom toilet.
In 2015, Pistorius was found guilty of murder and later sentenced to 13 years in prison.
By July this year, the 34-year-old had served half the term, the minimum period to be considered for parole, according to the victim's family lawyer.
