1. I question how the family and church pastor didn't counsel these men to stop using pot
especially when they had adopted 5 foster kids and were nominated as Foster Family of the Month.
2. As for forgetting children in cars, this has happened to the most attentive conscientious parents.
See article above, about how the adult mind lapses into routines, and can override memories
that don't fit the regular regime. If more people understood this danger, it can be prevented.
It is even more devastating when it happens to people who cannot understand or forgive themselves because this completely goes against their nature.
After one woman went through this, she started outreach to other parents, since only they can fully understand the trauma and guilt of blaming themselves and just wanting to die.

What does pot has to with it ?
There are millions of people who use pot and don't kill children.
The gay is simply a bad parent.
You have countries that are saying that gays can't be good parents, and then you have us with the popular vote that our favorite news channel sells us. World would be so much a better place if people learned to think for themselves.
The discussion if gays make good parents does not belong to us or our sympathy for the gays, it's science covered by sociology, psychology, statistics....
It has nothing to do with "maternal instinct". Most of these parents don't do this intentionally (although it happens). It is heartbreaking and horrible, and awful in every way. It has nothing to do with this guy's sexuality.

I an not on anyone's "side", here, just some observations:
THE OP obviously has an anti-gay agenda.{he or her, but I assume "simon feltser" is a male, though.}The OP obviously has a 'thing' against gays. SO he picks one example of one gay parent making a disaster of parenting. Ergo, to him, all gays are bad parents.
Here where I live a straight MOTHER gave her child booze in a sippy cup to shut him up. The child died of alcohol poisoning. BY the O.P.'s reasoning, MAYBE mothers should not be allowed to have children!
Here where I live, a hetero biological black mother put her baby IN THE microwave to "dry him off" after a bath. WHAT shall we pick on {and assume} here? Biological?? Hetero? Black? Mother? Female?
Here where I live, years ago, a HETERO MOTHER strangled not ONE, but FIVE of her infants who were orignally diagnosed as Sudden Infant Death Syndrome {SIDs} deaths, until a wise astute officer noted ALL FIVE died in the same manner of asphyxiation. She collapsed under interview and court and ADMITTED she did it because they would not stop crying and she wanted just ONE night's worth of quiet sleep. WHY, oh WHY, she asked in court, didn't they just stop crying???
Boy, ALL mothers are bad mothers, then, and should not be allowed to have children by simon's reasoning!!
Here, a straight young father, taking care of his child alone,in frustration {there's that 'crying thing' again} shook his baby hard enough to cause the child's death, then, first claimed the baby "fell off the couch". Gee, what shall we pick on here? Straight? Young? father? Male? Parent? Biological? Shaking?Crying? LYING?
Maybe someone here in this thread IS right, men just don't have that 'nuturing motherly intinct'. Flawed reasoning as much as the OP's {simon feltser}

It's a wonder they let people like Simon have children, as obviously he will raise them to be bigotted and predjudiced!

Since there are MORE NATURAL heterosexual parents than gay parents, I will bet there are FAR MORE straight parents making "bad parenting" decisions.
AS has been said, red, yellow, black, white, gay , bi, straight, single or married, male or female, biological or adoptive parents, grandparents or Baby sitters, many parents/caretakers have made bad choices when it comes to children! He was not the "first" to "roast" a child in a "car, microwave, oven, or even a clothes dryer".
Maybe the Chinese did have it right, and not just for over popluation reasons, if you LIMIT the number of children one can have, then you limit the amount of damage one can do to children!
The wealthy do, it turns out. And the poor, and the middle class. Parents of all ages and ethnicities do it. Mothers are just as likely to do it as fathers. It happens to the chronically absent-minded and to the fanatically organized, to the college-educated and to the marginally literate. In the last 10 years, it has happened to a dentist. A postal clerk. A social worker. A police officer. An accountant. A soldier. A paralegal. An electrician. A Protestant clergyman. A rabbinical student. A nurse. A construction worker. An assistant principal. It happened to a mental health counselor, a college professor and a pizza chef. It happened to a pediatrician. It happened to a rocket scientist.
So now, they can add to this list that a gay couple did it too.
How dare you say this happened because the parents are gay! Give your head a shake. Some gay parents are FAR better parents than some heterosexual couples.
These two parents need to be punished, but not because they are gay.
