If she doesn't need to walk off calories, she can walk off the narcissism required to cheat a cabbie out of a fare.

I've walked 15 miles in the span of 8 hours before. 30 miles in 48 hours is very doable.

Even in today's over weight, out of shape society, walking 3 miles an hour is not that hard. It might screw up a weekend but 6-7 hours, two days in a row should do it including bio breaks, rest stops and eating. A serious effort could knock it out in 10-11 hours. A serious athlete could probably do it in 6 or so. A hard core marathon runner, maybe 4.

I hope she also had to make restitution to the cabbie!

I think the Judge made that as part of the sentence. As for 15 miles being too much, no way. My GF and I would go for long walks with the dog at night and sometimes we would cover 10 miles in just a couple of hours, and we were in our late 50's. At her age, and her weight, it should be no problem, but it will give her a lot of time to think about consequences.

Well... that's in the eyes of the beholder. The judge has given this woman a chance to repay society for her criminal ways by walking which will give her much motive to contemplate her life choices and where it will head. Hopefully she will take advantage of it and come out a changed person.

Far too many judges are not making people atone for their crimes, or publicly shaming them. These type of sentences (along with proper monetary restitution) are far more effective at deterring smaller crimes. Plus they are much less expensive to the taxpayers, freeing up more beds for the hardened criminals.

I don't have a problem with the sentence at all. But an alternative would have been to make this woman drive a taxi cab for 30 days and live solely off of what she earns from it for that month. Maybe then she would appreciate what she did to the cabbie a bit more.
