I like the creativity. Whether it fits within the constitution's proscription of "cruel and unusual punishment" is anyone's guess. I'm assuming she'd select that over jail time.

I walked ten miles home from a hospital last month. It sucked, big time. Sounds like the punishment fit the crime. I hope the cabbie didn't have to pay the fare to the cab company though. That sometimes happens. It also happens to waiters who get dine and dash customers.

For you maybe. We don't even know what this woman's health is like and neither does the judge.
If there was a health issue that needed to be considered, you can rest assured that the judge would have been notified and the sentence would not have been given that way.

This is hilarious really. I would prefer this to going to jail, better to do court ordered requirements they go to jail.

3 miles an hour walking is a typical walking pace, 10 hours of walking over 2 days is perfectly doable.

She did and to me that makes the punishment a little harsh..

Walk 30 miles

AND

Pay $100 to the cabbie

AND

4 mos probation

That's a little steep for skipping on a cab fare IMO.

Im all for making her walk. Don't get me wrong. To me if you are going to make her pay restitution then leave off the probation or if you are going to make her pay then dont make her walk but still give her the probation.

Anyway.....I'll wait while folks flame away.

I agree. This is not the 17th century. What's next? The stocks? Wearing signs around ones neck?

Oh wait...draconian judges have already done that...

My guess it that she bailed because she was POOR.

Just love seeing our country moving backwards...

Not going to flame, just going to disagree.

I think the punishment is not at all harsh. Maybe next time she thinks about skipping out on something she owes, she'll think back to this.
