Some of you sound so old and stubborn. Just accept that times are changing (for the better).

How your application gender would make life of a student any different? Will trans en allowed to participate in wrestling (or better yet, get a wrestling scholarship). What about dorms placement? And which restroom gender noncom forming students should use?

Altering forms is cheap, making it real and meaningful is totally different

News flash: Although far outnumbered by their brethren, female wrestlers are no longer just a freak show anomaly on TV. Some (many?) high schools and colleges now have co-ed teams, and - perhaps even more surprisingly - the decided majority of "girls" who compete meet the long-held standards for feminine attractiveness with ease. Nice try, though.

Back in the 20th century, all a person had to do was indicate whether or not they were cigarette-friendly on their college housing application form. Now the dorms are all smoke-free (in theory, anyway) but you have to select which "gender identity" you embrace. WTF!

Several prestigious, and still all-female, colleges in the Eastern US (Bryn Mawr, Mt Holyoke, and Smith) have even gone so far as to decide that they will accept a "biological" male for admission as long as that guy shows the intent to have "transitioned" by the time s/he graduates. If I ever doubted that this generation of young adults deserved the term "entitled," those doubts have been dashed. This gender-identity nonsense is funny and downright creepy at the same time.

The alterations being made to admissions forms and University facilities in order to accommodate “gender identity” began when UC President Janet Napolitano formed a council to advise her on LGBT issues in 2014. Napolitano previously served as Homeland Security Advisor under President Barack Obama."

Anyway, how is "gender non-conforming" distinct from "different identity"?

brrabbit has a point. I am all for girls wrestling. I've known a couple who are very attractive (it doesn't matter whether they are or not, but they are).

The problem is when you create a protected or subsidized class that attracts people who try to cheat on or game the system. If you can choose your gender then someone will try to get on the girls' wrestling team (with a scholarship of course) who is not a girl. This isn't fair to the girls or to actual trans women.

If you think I am being unrealistic, look at other examples of money and privilege being laid out on a fishing line and see how long it took to catch some fish.
