What if it isn't true. Is it sad then or is it something else?
Why do you keep questioning if the story is true? Lowe's has acknowledged the story publicly, done an investigation, and fired the manager involved. It happened.
A 'cleaner' and fairer path would have been for the manager to say that they could not accomadate that sort of request, and that they would refund the shipping charge. Tell her to arrange her own product pick up.
The if she wanted to cancel the sale, then so be it. Better to lose one sale and maintain equitable treatment to all than to wallow in that hornets nest of liability.
I don't care what race someone is when they're delivering something to my house or doing a repair, but I do have three conditions.
1.) Everyone needs to have passed a background check. I don't want criminals working in my home.
2.) They must, must, MUST speak English. Do not send anyone here who does not speak English. Period. Ever. I also expect the workers to not only speak English to me, but to each other as well. I've bounced a pair of service techs out of my house when they kept speaking Spanish to each other.
3.) No illegal immigrants.
Then you had better be aware, and afraid, of the slew of Ban the Box venues popping up across the fruited plain.
What that means is that employers are barred from asking prospective employees about past convictions. Many in this region aren't even aware of the ramifications. If a business has its office ie., in the city, that question is banned even though any business is conducted outside of the city (suburbs, rural areas).
What we're talking about here are home improvement companies or contractors having access to your home, and being familiar with its layout.
I won't apologize for not wanting ex-cons working in our home.
As a Black man, I wouldn't have wanted to make the delivery. Hey, if he wants to go where he's not wanted, more trouble, I mean power to him.
Exactly. When the whole story comes out and the customer is deposed the reason the customer did what she did will be known.
Everybody is so fast to jump on the bigot/racist train but it could actually be something very different.
Before I get jumped on and before I explain what those things could've been I'd ask y'all just think about it for a few with an open mind...
