Years ago National Lampoon did a 'parody of a parody' article, "What, me Funny?" it's amazingly sad how they skewered them. Article is online somewhere.
I used to subscribe, one month it came in a plain brown wrapper with the words in bold: HERE IS THE PORNOGRAPHY YOU ORDERED. What a bunch of cut ups!!
Quality really fell off when William M. Gaines passed, I suggest reading Good Times and Mad, by Dick De Bartolo Mads Maddest Writer. On a side note I was watching reruns of The Matchgame and Dick De Bartolo name is in the credits as a writer. What a sweet gig that must have been.
Good, I always found it to be very lame. Now if we could get all these comic book based movies to start going bankrupt the world would be back on track.
I read MAD Magazine back in the 60/70s. It was like a comic book for adults. I don't think I've seen one on a news stand in many years. If I had I would have made the purchase. Maybe I just haven't been paying attention to news stands.
