And they wouldn't be offering it, if they thought this was a slam dunk.
Happens all the time. These guys have limited budget and resources, trials cost manhours. "We have enough to convict you for aggravated mopery, but we're willing to offer a deal if you plead guilty to the lesser charge of dopery." Justice is served, public time and money is saved, and the perpetrator only has the lesser conviction on his record. Win-win.
He did everything but toss the kid out. His story is complete BS.
He should have taken the plea deal. I am glad he did not, I hope he gets convicted and sentenced to the max. I feel this way because the guy is a liar. The plea deal was the last chance at some mercy graciously extended to him, and he refused.
Very well put and valid point! This needs to be taken into consideration moving forward.
I hope the parents watch the video and quit blaming the cruise line.
Anello appears to be taking his child-minding duty very casually. He doesn't even appear to be holding onto her with both hands at one point in the pictures/video.
It's actually not obvious to me. He says he didn't notice. And I'm sure he wants to believe it, desperately. But I, personally, don't think he didn't know it was open. I just don't see how it could be possible.
An open window is very visible. I've been on cruise ships.
The child was dropped out of the window. If he believed the window was closed, he would have been holding the child close to his body.
He literally looks like he's throwing the kid out the window.

The article I read said there was a video from behind as well. It showed the little girl standing, then disappearing from view. I imagine they won't release it since it's more sensitive.
The grandpa probably thinks jurors will be sympathetic. I imagine the prosecutor feels like a plea deal would spare a lot of heartache for the rest of the family.

Oh they want a payday but RC isn't paying bc they're not in the wrong.
It's like the Disney thing where the alligator killed the kid at the Disney hotel but opposite, the parents didn't sue bc Disney I'm sure gave them a humongous settlement bc they were clearly in the wrong.

I've been on this *actual* ship. The windows are tinted, not clear glass. It's very obvious if the window is open or not.
I agree with you as well about the way he is holding her.
