I couldn't find this story elsewhere on this board, but if it needs to be moved, please advise. Thanks!

Vicki White and accused killer, Casey Cole White (no relation to Vicki), have not been seen since Friday morning when they left Lauderdale County jail for an alleged mental-health evaluation at the County Courthouse. Vicki White, who is the Assistant Director of the Lauderdale County Sheriff's Office, told colleagues to prepare inmate Casey Cole White for transport to the Courthouse for a mental-health evaluation. She informed them that she alone would escort him because other no other deputies were available. It was later discovered that no such appointment existed, and neither the inmate nor Vicki White ever appeared at the Courthouse. News of the pair's failure to return to the jail became apparent at around 3:30 p.m., and efforts to reach Vicki White were unsuccessful.

Up to $10,000. has been offered by the U.S. Marshals Service for information leading to the missing corrections officer and inmate.

When we heard the alerts regarding the incident my DH noted that she was probably involved with the inmate.

DH was an Army corrections officer for 20 years with 3 more years a military policeman and knows how common it was for Cadre to get "too close to inmates".

I hope that no one gets hurt or killed.

My thoughts, exactly. It's not that they didn't show up to the mental-health appointment; the appointment never existed in the first place. That makes it pretty clear, IMO.

Or on further examination, the corrections officer could have been coerced in some way:
Quote:
Casey White previously planned to escape from the Lauderdale County Detention Center in the fall of 2020, but officials thwarted the plot before he could attempt it, Singleton said. When prison officials got word of the plot, they found a homemade knife in White's possession and learned that he was planning to take a hostage.
Interesting info re: Vicki White:
Quote:
Vicki White had been talking about retiring for three or four months prior to the escape. She turned in her paperwork on Thursday, and Friday, when the escape occurred, was set to be her last day at work.

Does Vicky White have children... a family... husband...living parents, etc? Anyone who an inmate could have used to threaten this officer with? I can't find this info.

It seems to me that a 25-year employee with an "exemplary record", and who was making a decent salary as Assistant Director of Corrections would have more sense than to be become involved with an inmate.

Stranger things have happened, but this one is chilling. Whether she went willingly or by force through coercion of some type, I suspect she's dead and buried.

Why would she be allowed to break protocol in the first place? I'm not understanding that. Surely someone beneath her authority would have been suspicious of that.

The penal institution may attempt to cover its own failures by pinning all blame on the officer.

UPDATE.... White is a widow with no children, and a mother with whom she lived for the past five weeks.

Not a widow.
She was divorced for more than 15 years due to her husband’s uncontrollable drug habit, but remained close and friendly with him and her now 88 y o mother-in-law.
Her ex-husband developed and died of Parkinson’s; she was helping him by driving him when necessary.

Allegedly, she cleared $80K cash after a recent sale of her home.

It would be truly a miracle if she is still alive. She is due her pension unless convicted of felony or a judge orders the freeze of her accounts: that may or may not keep her alive for awhile? As surely, the LEO would try to track the money

The guy is very tall - 6’9’’, probably hiding in some remote cabin, unless he/they? were able to fly out internationally? Though they don’t strike me as an international escape kind of people

I wish I could say that everyone who works in law enforcement was trustworthy and above stupidity, but I can't.

If Vicki White had been threatened it would've been so easy to report the inmate and keep her removed from posts that had direct contact with inmates.

This story is another case of idiocy from Madison Alabama (my County) that just happened on Saturday:

A warrant has been issued for her arrest, so I guess the police are assuming she's alive.

Not the first or the last story of this type. I don't really think women should work in men's prisons as correctional officers to be honest.

Men work as guards in women's prisons, too. And if "Orange is the New Black" had any basis in truth, there's plenty of sex being had.
