It provides the university an opportunity to make long range plans without having to worry about what someone else is going to build there. I will also add that UD and MVH are two things that are keeping Dayton afloat so, if UD did get special consideration, so what? The city knows that UD is not going to develop something that will cast the university, the city, or that plot of land in a negative light.
What smells about this deal is that both UD and Premier Health are nonprofits and thus don't pay property tax (or many other taxes for that matter). Like the other 70% of downtown property that is exempt from tax because it's a government function, a nonprofit (think CareSource), or is otherwise tax abated due to some sweetheart deal from City Hall.

You pass enough deals like this and suddenly the only people left paying taxes are the plebs. The little people who don't have connections in politics. They bear the heaviest tax burden. And it gets worse when Queen Nan gets on the stage and asks for more tax money.

It would be the same situation if another NPO bought the property. And who knows what kind of tax incentive would have been given to a for profit developer to do something with the land. The potential for positive economic impact goes well beyond property taxes.

Gee, I didn't know she could ask for property taxes.

Meeting about the Fairgrounds coming to Huber in early February. From what I've seen on social media, it will basically be people telling the Fairgrounds what to do with it(like shove it)

I'll say the politically incorrect thing: unless you locate the fairgrounds in a locale where there's no bus service, the county fair will continue to get trashed by, ahem, teenagers fighting each other.

And there are buses running to Brookville, but only a few times a day. But I doubt that was the factor on Bville opting out

Best news in this thread in awhile. Now we don't have to hear communities bickering over it. The only ones that really seemed to want it were Germantown and Trotwood(and of course Jefferson which now has it). Everybody else was NIMBY

I'd agree. It looks like a beautiful site, and it's free for the board to use, which will allow them some extra cash to build a nicer fairgrounds and bring in better events throughout the year.

I was hoping they'd go for the Hara site, which makes me wonder and worry what'll happen to the place.
