Seaford school district has a job opening but from the department of education website it doesn't look like a great district. Any thoughts?

Disom--my husband is a Seaford grad, and I am familiar with the district. I will send you a message regarding this district.

Default Apps and stuff

My wife applied to Indian River yesterday and printed/filled out the application for Smyrna. Anyone know much about the Smyrna school district?

Also she called the Dept of Education and they have her the information that she needed in order to get certified in Delaware. All she needs to do is send a copy of her NY certification, fill out a form from the dept of education in Delaware, and have her transcripts sent from the college she graduated from. They then assess it and send her the certification with her not needing to do any further testing.

That's great! I really don't know much about Smyrna, but I don't believe it's scary. The last I heard, it was a pretty decent district to work for. I know they have a great agriscience program. I was tempted to apply for an ag job there some time ago, but the drive was much too far.

Default Tax question

I'm just wondering what I should be expecting as far as taxes go if we do in fact move. We currently pay $1200 school taxes and about $1100 in town and county taxes. The town and county taxes are after a $700 rebate discount. We also pay $670 in home owners insurance. So we're paying $2300 in taxes but depending on our income, they could go up to $3000.

How much are you all paying combined?

Default Another question

I have another question regarding land rent. We have looked at a lot of houses and some have land rent. Is this common in areas near the beaches or throughout the whole state?

We pay $1100/year in property taxes and about $250/year for sewer usage. We pay $500/year for homeowners' insurance (we do not have flood insurance). We (oddly) don't live within Ocean View town limits; therefore, we don't have a city tax.

I believe land rent is a "beach thing". It's very common in the beach areas. I used to own a home and live on rented land during my first marriage, but now I live on my own land. I prefer it that way, but to each his own....renting land certainly has its pros and cons.

Before accepting any jobs within a certain school district near the city of Wilmington or its suburbs you guys should talk to the security officials at these schools. I was just hit with news that made my head rotate sixty seven times.

I haven't been able to grace my fellow Delaware peeps with my presence (ha ha) for a while because of 16 hour days at work. It looks like if we stay in Delaware till next school year I'm going to have to bite the bullet and find some money for private school.

Its strange that schools in Middletown,DE have twice the kids, but we have 10 times the crime. Hmmmmm...........
